It is Election Day. Have you voted? I just did, and I ran into several members of our Jackson Catholic parishes while doing so. Do not sit this one out. Proposal 3 can only be defeated if every person of faith who is eligible to vote goes out to take it down.
If you’re having trouble convincing other people to vote ‘No’ on Proposal 3, consider this recent news release where 11 Michigan County Prosecutors came out against it, including our own Jerry Jarzynka:
This information needs to be made known. Parents need to be aware. These prosecutors know all too well the many laws that will fall if Proposal 3 passes, again reminding us why it has earned the title from Michigan’s Bishops, ‘The Anything Goes Amendment.’
According to these prosecutors, Proposal 3 is both dangerous and deviant. Consider this:
The proposed amendment arguably invalidates age of consent laws (relating to “reproductive freedom”) currently protecting minors. Disturbingly, no age limitation exists in the Prop 3. The proposed amendment will, therefore, prevent prosecutors from enforcing criminal statutes against statutory rape, child sexual abuse (MCL 750.520), female genital mutilation (MCL 750.136), and other similar statutes if the child “consents.” In other words, sex between a 12-year-old girl and a 45-year-old man will now be protected as a new right, so long as the child “consents.” As written, the new “super right” makes it virtually impossible to enforce or enact a statute prohibiting certain sexual activity, including pedophilia as long as the child “consents”.
Vote. Call your family and friends. Get them to vote. Offer to drive them. The Get Out The Vote drive sponsored by Protect Life MI continues up until the close of polls tonight. Grab your cell phone and come to Vincentian Hall this afternoon if you are willing to make some calls.
OUR LADY’S ELECTION PROTECTION PRAYER:
O Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy, at this most critical time we entrust the United States of America to your loving care. Most Holy Mother, we beg you to reclaim this land for the glory of your Son. Overwhelmed with the burden of the sins of our nation, we cry to you from the depths of our hearts and seek refuge in your motherly protection. Look down with mercy upon us and touch the hearts of our people. Open our minds to the great worth of human life and to the responsibilities that accompany human freedom. Free us from the falsehoods that lead to the evil of abortion and threaten the sanctity of family life. Grant our country the wisdom to proclaim that God’s law is the foundation on which this nation was founded, and that He alone is the True Source of our cherished rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. O Merciful Mother, give us the courage to reject the culture of death and the strength to build a new Culture of Life. Trusting in your most powerful intercession, we pray: Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, we fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, our Mother. To thee do we come, before thee we stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not our petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer us. Amen.
VETERANS DAY: Those who have served our country in the Armed Forces did so in order that we might be able to have free and fair elections, freedom of speech, and freedom of religion, not freedom from religion! Join us at the 9am Mass this Friday, Veterans Day, as we honor our active duty and retired military personnel from the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and National Guard, thanking them for their service. We don’t know them all, but we owe them all.
