At the 5pm Mass this evening, Fr. Eben will be the celebrant of the Mass and Fr. Adam will be the homilist.
Fr. Eben is the oldest of the MacDonald 6 where I am the youngest. He has lived in Los Angeles for almost 40 years and was ordained a priest for that Archdiocese in 2012. He is the pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes in Los Angeles and, like me, he is the dean of his region. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and roots for both the Dodgers and the Tigers, unless they are playing each other, and then it is Detroit all the way.
Fr. Adam was ordained with me 25 years ago. He is a missionary priest with the Society of the Divine Word (SVD). He has done mission work in Japan and the Philippines and served as vocation director here in the states for community. Currently he is the rector of a small community of international students preparing for ordination into his Order at the Catholic Theological Union of Chicago. Fr. Adam is proud to point out to me that Pope Leo XIV is an alumnus.
Fr. Adam is the host of an online vocations program produced by the Archdiocese of Chicago. He recently invited Fr. Eben and I to join him ‘on air’ so we could swap vocation stories and talk about our journey to the priesthood. If you would like to take a look at it, click on the link below . . .
