Happy St. Patrick’s Day to one and all.  I have been asked what the situation is in our Diocese regarding the dispensation from abstinence from meat today so people can have corned beef.  The Diocese of Lansing and the Archdiocese of Detroit are offering NO dispensation, while the Diocese of Kalamazoo is.  It differs from diocese to diocese and bishop to bishop.  Corned beef is an American Irish tradition.  They don’t eat it in Ireland.  Come to the Fish Fry instead!

Not including paper responses, Queens has received 681 surveys for the Disciple Maker Index, representing 57% of those who attend Mass here.  Time is running out.  The survey link will close on March 27.  We received 850 responses in 2020. I was aiming for more than a thousand this time around.  Please, if you have not already completed the DMI, use the link below and take 10 minutes to answer these important questions that will provide vital data for future strategic planning at both the parish and diocesan level.

There are two opportunities to pray Stations of the Cross today at Queens.  The 6th grade students from Queens School will present The Living Stations in the Church at 2:15pm.  Stations are prayed again in Church following the Fish Fry at 7pm.

Speaking of the Fish Fry, last week saw the biggest crowd since before the pandemic.  Please come out and support the Knights who do so much to support the parish, the school and the community.  Dine in or drive thru between 4:30 and 7pm this evening.

The Diocesan Services Appeal continues.  When the bulletin went to print on Tuesday, we were at 14% of goal with 76 donors representing 5% of our registered families in the parish and pledges of nearly $30,000.  As of March 16th, we were sitting at 32% of goal with pledges of nearly $68,000 from 143 parishioners representing 9% of registered households.  $142,876 stands between us and reaching our goal of $210,387, the fourth highest goal of all 72 parishes in the diocese.

There are over 450 donors to last year’s DSA at Queens who have yet to record their gift or pledge in 2023.  I hope to hear from you soon so we can meet and surpass our goal to fully fund the 100 programs and ministries paid for with DSA dollars.

Please join us for Mass this weekend when we celebrate Laetare Sunday, the Pink Sunday of Lent.  The Lenten penance services are beginning.  St. Mary Star of the Sea is this Saturday the 18th at 10am and Queens’ penance service is Tuesday the 21st at 7pm with 10 priests.

However you celebrate today, may St. Patrick the Apostle of Ireland, intercede for your health, holiness and happiness.
