LET’S GO TO THE MOVIES!

BRING THIS MOVIE TO OUR TOWN

On Friday September 12 at 7pm, there could be a screening at the Jackson 10 Cinema of the new movie featured above, IF we can convince 80 people to buy advance tickets.

Triumph of the Heart tells the story of the martyrdom of Saint Maximilian Kolbe, who died as a prisoner at Auschwitz on August 14, 1941.  A Franciscan Catholic priest, Fr. Maximilian sacrificed his life so an innocent man he barely knew would not be murdered by the SS.

This film can only be shown if a certain number of ticket sales can be guaranteed.  I know it’s a fall football Friday evening. Even if you can’t attend the movie, perhaps you would buy a ticket in advance just to force the distributors to bring it here and allow it to be shown for this one night only engagement.

These aren’t just the movies Catholics want to see, these are the movies we need to see.  Hollywood keeps serving up horror, violence and vulgarity.  Spending our money on movies like Triumph of the Heart let producers know there is money to be made in financing films that inspire people instead of degrading human dignity and lowering our collective IQ.

PRE-ORDER YOUR TICKET NOW

It takes guaranteed ticket sales of $1500 to bring the movie here for a one night engagement.  Tickets are $17 a piece.  As of 4pm today, $323 has been raised in ticket sales.  That means we only need to sell 70 more seats in order to make this happen.  If this doesn’t work, your purchase price will be refunded to you, or you can choose to pay it forward.

WHY THIS MOVIE MATTERS . . .

I lost my faith and wanted to die.  My name is Anthony D’Ambrosio, and I’m the writer and director of Triumph of the Heart.  I was a good Catholic. I did the right things. I even went to seminary, but I left when I fell in love.  But just before I got engaged, everything fell apart.

I got sick. An undiagnosed medical condition destroyed my life. I couldn’t sleep. My relationship ended. I could barely hold down my job. And worst of all, there was no cure—no end in sight.  The darkness closed in, and I lost my faith. I didn’t want to live anymore.  But then I remembered Kolbe.

St. Maximilian Kolbe was a priest, a writer, and a Catholic friar. During World War II, he was arrested and sent to Auschwitz for his vocal opposition to the ideologies of the day.

He watched as 10 men were condemned to die in the starvation bunker—a brutal death sentence. When one man cried out, “My wife, my children!” Kolbe stepped forward and offered his own life in exchange.

I kept coming back to that starvation bunker—the place where Kolbe chose to love in the face of unimaginable suffering. I thought about how he forged a brotherhood in that darkness, how he transformed despair into hope. Slowly, a light began to break through.

Kolbe’s story gave me a way forward, and this film is my way of sharing that light with the world.

In an age that runs from pain and avoids the cost of love, Kolbe shows us another way. He is a saint for our time—and his story is one we all need to hear.

PICTORIAL DIRECTORY INFORMATION

There has been some confusion about where portraits for the pictorial directory are being taken.  These are happening in Vincentian Hall at Church, not at the parish office or school.  There is still plenty of room for more people to schedule appointments and I hope they do!

Truth, beauty and goodness are found in God, in His mercy, and in the one, holy, Catholic and apostolic Church founded by His son.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teaching” (Heb 13:8-9).
