MOMS SELLING MUMS FOR THEIR SONS

The Mighty Titans of Lumen Christi are off to a great start this season. So far, they have scored a total 111 points in their first three games – their opponents have zero!  You can help support the team by ordering some mums for your house or garden, or to give as a gift.  Orders can be placed after all Masses this weekend in the lower level of the elevator entrance.

LET IT SHINE CHILDREN’S CHOIR REHEARSALS START SEP 12

The Adult Choir is still accepting new members.  Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings in the choir loft from 7 – 8:30pm.  This Tuesday the 12th the Let it Shine Children’s Choir begins their weekly rehearsals at 5:30pm also in the loft.  See Carol Hatch for more information.  This is open to students in grades 2-6 and is intended for children in Catholic school, public school or home school.

FAITH FORMATION BEGINS THIS WEEKEND

At Queens, we embrace the Church’s belief that parents are the primary educators of children.  Most parents lack the time or the resources to do this by themselves.  That is why Queens is part of the Jackson Catholic Schools, subsidizes our own parochial grade school and offers a Faith Formation Program for those in public school.

Parents of K-12 children in public school should have their kids enrolled in Faith Formation if they are not enrolled in Catholic school.  Doing nothing is not an option.

There has been some confusion caused by my comments about homeschooling.  We do not offer a ‘homeschool track’ for faith formation.  I was referring to those who homeschool their children instead of putting them in a Catholic school, public school, charter school or academy.  More often than not, these families are using approved Catholic homeschool curriculums like Spirit of Truth from the Sophia Institute or the Seton Home Study Program where all subjects are covered at home, not just religion.

Those who have students in public school really should enroll them in Faith Formation, especially if they are in second or eighth grade.

We have offerings for Pre-K through high school.  Classes take place in Queens School and start THIS Sunday September 10.  They run from 10:15 – 11:45 each week.

There is a modest cost but there are caps for families with multiple students and financial aid is available.  You can register online using this link featured below.

We also have ADULT FAITH FORMATION starting this Sunday at 10:15am in Seton Hall located on the lower level of the parish office. This year they are covering the popular “Catechism in a Year” series with Fr. Mike Schmitz.  This class is free and all are welcome.

RETREAT DAY SATURDAY NOVEMBER 4TH

WHY . . .

The Rescue Project was developed by Detroit priest and Ave Maria Radio host Fr. John Riccardo. His book Rescued tells the story of salvation for a modern audience, helping us to see the world and ourselves as God does, where religion becomes more about a loving relationship with God and with each other, not just a set of rules, rubrics and regulations to live by.

WHO . . .

Everyone is welcome. You are the lifeguards who are going to help us throw the life preservers to those who need them most.  The Rescue Project can benefit:

  • people who are not strong or passionate about their faith,
  • those whose faith has been shaken by a crisis or trauma,
  • those who have lost their faith,
  • younger people who are disillusioned with God and religion,
  • and even those who do not know God.

Invite them and attend with them.  The Rescue Project can provide inspiration and motivation for everyone who attends.

There are QR codes on the posters at the doors of church or you can sign up right here in this e-mail!

WHY . . .

Please don’t sit this one out.  The world needs God.  We need God – now more than ever before.  And we need the church to gain access to the sacraments and the hope of salvation.  We need to be Rescued.

Join us Tuesday evenings this fall starting September 19 for The Rescue Project.

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 24

Plan on joining us for the Annual Queens Parish Picnic on Sunday September 24th from 11:30am – 2:30pm in Vincentian Hall.  Sponsored by the Parish Life Commission, there will be free hot dogs and hamburgers, coleslaw, baked beans, chips and cookies.  For the kids, there is a bounce house, the bean bag toss and road rally games.
