Due to the ongoing heat wave, tomorrow’s yard clean up at the rectory and parish offices has been postponed. We will announce a new date when cooler weather is expected. Thank you to those who had planned on coming to help.
While I will be in church at a funeral tomorrow morning, Jackson Right to Life invites you to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade and also to remember the millions lost to abortion, in particular our tiny brothers and sisters, and their mothers, in Michigan, that continue to be victims of abortion. Our tone is always one of love, mercy and compassion. By participating you are helping to humanize our aborted brothers and sisters, deepening your own commitment to ending the injustice of abortion, and begging God for His mercy with repentant hearts to end this atrocity.
WHEN: SATURDAY, JUNE 22, 2024 TIME: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM WHERE: ST. JOHN CEMETERY, 403 E. SOUTH ST
(AT MONUMENT TO THE UNBORN)
I will be on a very brief trip to a friend’s 25th Anniversary of ordination this week and that means there will be NO 6:45am Mass on Thursday June 27th. Those who attend daily Mass, please note the change and know that you are welcome at St. Mary’s for their 12:05pm daily Mass.
Looking ahead to America’s 248th Birthday on Thursday July 4th, there will be no 6:45am Mass that day. Instead, we hope you will join us for a special Independence Day Mass at 9:00am that day to pray for our country.
Summer Vacation Bible School will also impact the daily Mass schedule. The 9am Masses on Monday July 8 and Friday July 12 will move to 8am. The other days will not be impacted.

We are asking all families with students in public school to please take a few minutes to fill out the survey in the link below. Many families do not enroll their public school children in faith formation, and of those who do, there is often an alarmingly high rate of absences from week to week.
With this survey, we want to find out what is working well and what could be better as we seek to engage with the families we currently serve and attract those parents who are not enrolling their children in any formal program of religious education.
This survey is especially important for public school parents of incoming 8th graders as we seek input about Confirmation preparation which is now a joint effort in the Jackson Parish Grouping of Queens, St. John and St. Mary.

SUMMER VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL JULY 8 -12 2, 2024, 9AM – 12:15PM
|
SCUBA – Queens Summer Vacation Bible School is two weeks away, coming up July 8 – 12. This program is open to children in pre-school thru grade 6. It runs Monday to Friday 9am – 12:15pm each day. There are more than 60 kids signed up and plenty of room for more.
It is extremely helpful and preferred if people do not wait until the last minute to sign up for VBS, though we still take walk-ins at the door. This helps with putting the kids into groups and ordering the T-shirts.
At Mass this weekend, please stop by the display in the upper level of the elevator entrance and take one or more of the fish that detail the items we need donated for VBS. Bring these items with you to Mass next week or drop them at the parish office.
Use the link below to register your children:

Our VBS program is in need of teen and adult volunteers. VBS will be held July 8-12 from 9:00AM-12:15PM in the school. The last day there is a picnic following.
HERE IS THE MOST UP TO DATE TALLY OF HELP THAT IS STILL NEEDED FOR VBS:
1. SIX High school or college age Crew leaders, and TWO adult crew leaders to be in charge of a group of elementary age children the whole week. Crew Leaders lead the children through the different stations each day.
2. THREE Junior High or High School teens to assist adult Station Leaders (Stations are: Imagination Station, Sticky Scripture, Reef Rec Games, Deep Bible Adventures, Tidal Treats).
Adults over 18 must complete our Child Safety protocols (On-line Virtus training, a Background check and signing a Code of Conduct form)
Service Hour credit available for Confirmation or Lumen service hour requirements
Volunteers will receive a staff T Shirt to wear each day–please indicate your size in the comment section of the Sign Up.
Thank you to all who are willing to help–VBS is a lot of work, but a lot of fun and very rewarding!
