SAINTS AMONG US!

What a precious bunch of kids?!  They really did it up, dressing up as their favorite saints for the Faith Formation All Saints Day Halloween Party last weekend! Thank you to all those who participated and helped to make this party such a great event for these kids and their families.

COFFEE AND DONUTS
THIS SUNDAY

The Queens Parish Life Commission invites you to be their guest this weekend for Coffee and Donuts after the 7:30am, 9am and 11am Mass this Sunday.

FREEDOM ISN’T FREE.
THANK A VET!

Queens School played host to more than 25 service veterans at the 9am Mass today to kickoff Veterans Day weekend.  During the homily, the children discussed what it means to be a hero, and then they got to see living examples of heroism and bravery as we called our veterans up for a blessing.  We even had one WWII veteran in attendance, 98 year old Harry Wolverton!

At Queens, we teach our students to be children of God and people of faith, but also good citizens and patriots who love our country.  Unless we lead by example and raise our kids to love God and America, we will continue to see the misguided and lost generations of youth we often encounter on the news and all across social media.

May God bless the service and sacrifice of all veterans of the United States armed forces.

Dear Lord, Today we honor our veterans, worthy men and women who gave their best when they were called upon to serve and protect their country.  We pray that you will bless them for their unselfish service in the continual struggle to preserve our freedoms, our safety, and our country’s heritage, for all of us.

Bless them abundantly for the hardships they faced, for the sacrifices they made for their many different contributions to America’s victories over tyranny and oppression.  We respect them, we thank them, we honor them, we are proud of them. We pray that you will watch over these special people and bless them with peace and happiness.  –By Joanna Fuchs, www.actionministries.net

SUPPORT OUR
BULLETIN ADVERTISERS

Queens has one of the biggest and best bulletins in the diocese.  Our three pages of ads make it so that the parish pays nothing.  Please consult the back of the bulletin and support those who advertise with us when looking for goods and service providers.  I pay for my own bulletin ad thanking our sponsors, as I want to lead by example here.  Thank you to all of our sponsors.  If you have a business and would be interested in placing an ad, please contact our sales rep from diocesan publications, Don Roe:  droe@diocesan.com, 616-340-8580.

QUEENS S3 CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
1ST PLEDGE TOTAL UPDATE!

Our Queens goal for the diocesan campaign for Catholic education is $2,650,000, representing 1.25x our annual offertory.  One month into Queens’ S3 campaign, I can announce what we are already 57% of the way to our goal, with pledges of more than $1,500,000 from only 224 donors representing just 14% of our 1,550 registered households!  This is an amazing start!

Now it’s your turn.  If just 14% of the people can account for nearly 60% of the goal, the other 86% of our parishioners should surely be able to make up the difference between $1,500,000 and $2,650,000!  Have you made your pledge to S3?  The Diocese now has over $16,000,000 in pledges to the campaign!

In the Diocese of Lansing, we have 8,500 students enrolled in 28 grade schools and 4 regional high schools with more than 600 teachers.  Nationwide, there are currently 1,700,000 students enrolled in nearly 7,000 Catholic schools with some 150,000 faith-filled teachers.

The campaign funds raised at all 72 parishes of our diocese will go to increase financial aid and scholarships for families using our Catholic schools and giving raises and retention bonuses to Catholic school teachers.

20% of S3 raised at Queens stays at Queens.  This would be over half a million dollars that we will bank toward the support of the administration and programs of the Jackson Catholic Schools.  Any amount we raise over goal will stay in the parish.

Though a specific gift amount is suggested in the Bishop’s letter, every gift is optional, and every ‘ask’ for your gift is ‘aspirational’.  The amount is based on a three year average of your offertory giving and then multiplied out over a five year anticipated pledge.

Please consider the specific gift amount requested as an amount to pledge and pay over time on a schedule of your choosing, not as something you have to give now.  All of us are able to give more when we extend the gift for a period of years.

If you feel you absolutely cannot give anything close to what Bishop is asking, the alternative doesn’t have to be to give nothing at all, something I am encountering in some of my outreach to donors.  A one-time gift of any size is preferable!

The Catholic Foundation would love to hear from you if you wish to discuss gifts of stock or real estate, planned gifts or IRA distributions.  I would be happy to put you in touch with them.

I am asking that you place pledge card envelopes in the offertory collection at Mass or drop them off at the parish office.  Please do not stamp them and mail them to the Catholic Foundation.  Checks should be made payable to ‘Stewardship for Saints and Scholars.’

This is a ’boutique’ campaign allowing you to make your commitment however you like:  how much to pledge, when to start giving, how often you will be billed, how to pay, etc.  The power is in your hands.

‘THANK YOU’ to all those who have made their commitment to the S3 campaign.  We had 717 donors during the Witness to Hope Campaign of 2016.  We have a long way to go before we surpass that participation rate.  Here again is the link to the S3 campaign video:

CAMPAIGN PRAYER

Lord, everything we have is a gift from you.
You call us to receive your gifts with thanks,
to develop these gifts fully,
and to share them generously.
Through the Stewardship for Saints and Scholars campaign
help every young person in the Diocese of Lansing
see your truth, beauty, and goodness;
help families to raise their children in the Faith;
and help parishes make a truly Catholic education
available to all.
May the work of this campaign bear abundant fruit
in the Saints and Scholars you are raising up for the future.
We ask these blessings through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, pray for us

Truth, beauty and goodness are found in God, in His mercy, and in the one, holy, Catholic and apostolic Church founded by His son.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teaching” (Heb 13:8-9).
