A MESSAGE FROM FR. TIM

If you’re up and at it, please join us tomorrow morning for 8am Mass as we celebrate the Apostles Peter and Paul, the princes of the apostles, both martyred for the faith in 64 AD.

This coming Thursday we celebrate Independence Day, America’s 248th Birthday.  There will be no 6:45am Mass on July 4.  We hope you will join us for a special Independence Day Mass at 9:00am that day to pray for our country.

The upcoming Summer Vacation Bible School will also impact the daily Mass schedule.  The 9am Masses on Monday July 8 and Friday July 12 will move to 8am.  The other days will not change.

Please make sure to get a copy of this week’s bulletin or read it online to see important information about our parish finances as we conclude our fiscal year this Sunday and begin a new one on Monday July 1.

I had a great but brief trip to Florida for my friend Bishop Gregory Parkes’ 25th Anniversary of priestly ordination this past week.  Below, you can see Fr. Greg blessing me after his ordination Mass in Orlando on June 26, 1999.

25 years later, to the day, you can see Bishop Greg and me celebrating in St. Petersburg at the St. Jude Cathedral on June 26, 2024!  What a difference 9,125 days make!

You are a priest forever Bishop Parkes!  Ad Multos Annos – many more years!

QUEENS SUMMER
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
JULY 8 – 12,
9AM – 12:15PM

SCUBA – Queens Summer Vacation Bible School is only ONE week away, coming up July 8 – 12!  This program is open to children in pre-school thru grade 6.  Pre-school has its own dedicated program.  VBS runs Monday to Friday 9am – 12:15pm each day.  A free luncheon party will be held outdoors on the last day.

There are 99 kids signed up already and there is still plenty of room for more!

It is extremely helpful and preferred if people do not wait until the last minute to sign up for VBS, though we still take walk-ins at the door.  This helps with putting the kids into groups and ordering the T-shirts.

Use the link below to register your children.  Monday July 1 is the last day to get the early bird registration discount!

As of June 28th, we still need THREE High school or college age Crew leaders, and ONE adult crew leader to be in charge of a group of elementary age children the whole week.  Crew Leaders lead the children through the different stations each day.

Adults over 18 must complete our Child Safety protocols (On-line Virtus training, a Background check and signing a Code of Conduct form)

Service Hour credit available for Confirmation or Lumen service hour requirements

Volunteers will receive a staff T Shirt to wear each day–please indicate your size in the comment section of the Sign Up.

Thank you to all who are willing to help–VBS is a lot of work, but also a lot of fun and very rewarding!

USE THE SIGN UP GENIUS LINK HERE TO VOLUNTEER:

For parishioners who took an ornament for items needed for VBS, PLEASE TURN IN ALL DONATIONS AT MASS THIS WEEKEND OR AT THE OFFICE BY MONDAY.

FAITH FORMATION SURVEY

We are asking all families with students in public school to please take a few minutes to fill out the survey in the link below.   Thank you to those who have already done so!

Many families do not enroll their public school children in faith formation, and of those who do, there is often an alarmingly high rate of absences from week to week.

With this survey, we want to find out what is working well and what could be better as we seek to engage with the families we currently serve and attract those parents who are not enrolling their children in any formal program of religious education.

This survey is especially important for public school parents of incoming 8th graders as we seek input about Confirmation preparation which is now a joint effort in the Jackson Parish Grouping of Queens, St. John and St. Mary.

TRUTH, BEAUTY AND GOODNESS ARE FOUND IN GOD, IN HIS MERCY, AND IN THE ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH FOUNDED BY HIS SON

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teaching” (Heb 13:8-9).
