This weekend, we pray for all mothers, grandmothers, Godmothers, foster mothers and mother figures, living and deceased.  We bless these women for the life, love and sacrifice they have given for those under their care.  Mothers are where we first learn unconditional love. 

Mothers love us in the womb.  They love us when we keep them up all night as infants, and again, as teens who don’t ‘call in’ or come home by curfew.  They love us when we win and when we fail, kiss it better when we fall, and hug it better when all seems lost.  This love is all too often taken for granted and all too little imitated in our dealings with other people.  If your mother is alive, you’re alive because of her.  Tell her how much she means to you.  If your mother has passed, she is alive because of Jesus.  You can say a prayer asking Jesus to give her the hug you wish you could give her yourself.      

The recently founded Christ Child Society of South Central Michigan is a non-profit providing backpacks filled with essential items to be given to women in Jackson who lack resources as they welcome their new little one into the world. The children of Queens parish have helped to pack and prepare these bags. They were presented at today’s school Mass and will be featured in front of the altar at all Masses this Mother’s Day weekend.

If you are looking for the perfect Mother’s Day Gift, you can make a donation in honor of your mother or grandmother to the Christ Child Society. You will receive an invitation to a special Mass honoring all mothers and grandmothers to be held here on Saturday July 25th at 8am.

There are envelopes in the pews and tables at the doors to drop off your donation, pick up your donation card and to find out more by talking with a member of the society.

Volunteers from the pantry will be at all Queens Masses next weekend offering raffle ticket, $5 and 4 for $20.  The grand prize are four tickets to Comerica Park on Friday July 10 to watch the Detroit Tigers beat the Philadelphia Phillies!    

Queens helped found the Jackson Community Food Pantry, and we continue to support it, as should you.
