Some noticed that I was missing from morning Mass yesterday and today. I assure you that it was not by choice. I had a bad cold last week which didn’t explain the physical pain I was in by the weekend. It took all my energy and effort to get through the Sunday Masses. I felt like I had just competed in the rodeo when it came to any simple movement.
Later that evening I went through the Emergency Room at Chelsea Hospital. A CT Scan revealed that I was experiencing a perianal abscess. I have been told that I am a real pain in that area, but I have never experienced it like this before!
I was admitted and prepped for a surgery that happened yesterday afternoon under full anesthesia. The procedure was a success. I was kept overnight for IV antibiotics and observation. I am expected to make a full recovery with some follow up care and appointments. This had nothing to do with my cancer situation from earlier in the summer. I am still melanoma free while my extensive head scars are still healing. I have my next skin exam in December. The hair will take months to grow back in.
I am grateful for the excellent care I received at Chelsea Hospital. It was nice to be visited each day by their volunteer Communion ministers from the local parish around the corner. I got a roommate one hour before being discharged. Better for him than to listen to me saw logs at night!
My apologies to those who got canceled on short notice for meetings and appointments. I hope to ramp back up to a full schedule soon, though I will focus mainly on desk work today since I am on some restrictions after being put under.
